Meant to Be: Santana + Slater

Sometimes it feels like a wedding is just meant to be for us.  If you follow us on Instagram, you know we have had an absolutely bonkers year.  From a full calendar of weddings to launching our semi-custom invitations to expanding our shipped offerings, to moving into our new office space and growing our team, this year has been an amazing yet wild ride!  When Santana ✨the bride✨ reached out about having us create her wedding signage pretty close to their wedding date, there was, miraculously, a gap in our schedule. She locked us in just five days before her wedding, and ✨I’m glad she did!✨  The magic we produced for her seating chart was *chef’s kiss.*👩🏻‍🍳💋

The Ringling Museum

This Canadian couple’s wedding was held at The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota.  The renaissance-style building looks like someone plucked a palace out of Europe and dropped it right on the Florida bayfront. And of course, ✨ it’s pink✨   so I love it even more.  It was the perfect backdrop for AM+Co signage.

The Ringling MuseumHearts on Fire

Santana and Slater’s wedding was themed around “hearts on fire,” so we incorporated a heart-shaped inset in the seating chart structure.  The construction of the seating chart was a family affair, and Tyler’s dad and grandpa chipped in and helped us get it done in four hours!  I can’t help but think back to the first inset-style seating chart structure Tyler made, which was a multi-day effort of much frustration as he learned how to bend wood.  I’m so proud of how far he’s come and really impressed with how much he’s learned about the process🤍  I am also really thankful for the help from our family since we had such a short timeframe to make this happen! It takes a village to grow a business!

On Love

The interior of the inset has a portion of the poem “On Love” by Khalil Gibran from his book The Prophet transcribed in my calligraphy:

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Heart details

Inside the heart inset, we hung individual hearts for each guest, indicating their names and seating assignments.  The hearts were originally clear glass that we painted matte white and then hand-calligraphed in gold.  I love the contrast of structure set against the pink of the Ringling Museum.

Plan for Florals

This seating chart is a perfect case study of why florals make all the difference with wedding signage.  Originally there were no florals planned for the seating chart.  When you see the before and after without florals and with, it’s clear how necessary they are to make the structure feel intentional, planned, and part of the event.  If you’re planning your wedding, I can’t emphasize this enough – plan florals for your signage!  If you don’t skimp on this, you’ll thank me later! 😝

Unplugged Signage

We also created a lovely “Unplugged Ceremony” sign for their entrance, inviting their guests to refrain from using their phones and cameras during the ceremony.

I always want our signage to fit seamlessly in the environment that the planners have worked so tirelessly to curate.  That is why we keep Unplugged signs on the floor, so as not to not distract from everything else.  (Side note: we can customize and ship this sign anywhere in the US!  Contact us to find out how!)  In addition, we created their bar sign.  Both signs had a very monochromatic, elegant feel.

It was so fun to be a part of Santana and Slater’s wedding, and I’m happy we could make it happen in such a unique and creative way on the short timeline we had! It’s all in the details ✨

If you’re interested in working together, we’d love to connect!  Reach out on our contact form and let’s talk about your wedding!
